Home-Schooling Is Enabling The Right To Education Of Choice

The concept of home-schooling is new and revolutionary in nature. Thousands of parents each year are making a decision to remove their children from the public school system in favor of homeschooling their children. Almost every school are overcrowded in many districts. The children cannot get the personal attention that is required for better learning.

This fact creates a fantastic opportunity for an individual with a teaching or education background to start a home-school business. Consider the following steps before starting your home-school business.

Permits & Licenses

Apply for permits and licensing, as it is the most important aspect to consider while starting a home-school business. Each region has a different permit and licensing requirements for home-school businesses. Some states require that you sign up as a private school. You will be required to get a business license, tax identification number and liability insurance. Get accreditation from state recognized programs. Contact the education department and the local Board of Education to learn requirements that will apply to your home-school business.

Keep yourself updated with the changing home-school regulations and laws. Ensure that your home-school meets all the legal requirements. Gather all the information about testing requirements, curriculum guidelines and teaching procedures.

Curriculum

Creating a defined curriculum is important. Choose the class levels that will be taught in your home-school business. If you are going to teach the students yourself, then get a teaching certification. Complete the required coursework at schools recommended by the state. Create and review the curriculum based on state education requirements.

Equipments

You will be required to purchase the equipments depending on your home-school business. Purchase supplies like textbooks, writing materials, art supplies, classroom furniture etc. You might also need computer and Internet access. Buy supplies for teaching like chalkboard, chalk, crayons and pencils. Buy from an online wholesaler or a local teaching supply store.

Marketing

Leverage on marketing your business. Home-schooling is still an alien concept for many parents. Make them aware of your business and the benefits of home-schooling. Create fliers and business cards for distribution at bookstores, libraries, district offices and educational supply stores. You can also promote your home-school at daycare centres where the children may be getting too old for the childcare program and are starting school.
