Weddings are pompous occasions in India and in most cases celebrated with widespread decorations, colour, music, dance, costumes and rituals that depend on the community, region and religion of the bride and the groom. From a small banquet, five-star hall to a farmhouse, the costs of venues differ. A hotel banquet venue usually costs between 25 lakh to 50 lac with minimal decoration. Five-star banquets charge higher due to branding, usually above 50 lac. The number of functions also plays a part in the cost of venues.

Most decorations amount to 8-10% of the total Indian wedding cost. A simple, elegant decoration will usually cost you 2 lac.

Several snacks and cuisines cost vary from 700 to 2500 per plate. Overall catering costs range between 1.5 lac and 5 lac.

A bridal lehenga easily costs between 50,000 to 1.5 lakh, while a groom’s sherwani would cost between 15,000 to 70,000. The photography budget can go as high as 5 lac. A makeup artist charges 30,000 or more for bridal makeup and a minimum of 5000 for party makeup.

Keeping the above factors in mind,  the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) expects a high turnover during the wedding season. Talking about the capital city alone will generate a business of 50 crore with the expected number of 1.5 lac weddings.

CAIT reported the banquet halls, hotels, open lawns, farm houses and many other places for weddings are fully prepared. The hospitality industries are expected to multiply their profit this season. In addition to this a wide variety of services including tent decorators, Flower decorations, crockery, catering service, travel service, cab service, welcoming professional groups, vegetable vendors, photographers, videographer, pandits, band-baja, shehnai, orchestra, DJ, horses for the procession, waggons, lights and many other types of services are likely to make a big amount.

Praveen Khandelwal, general secretary, CAIT said, "Large business has happened in the repair of houses and paint of the houses before the wedding season. Apart from this, jewellery, sarees, lehenga-chunni, readymade garments, clothes, footwear, wedding and greeting cards, dry fruits, sweets, fruits, worship items, grocery, food grains, decoration items, electrical utility, electronics, and many gift items, etc are usually in demand and it is expected to do good business this year."

 The estimated size of the Indian event industry is 5 lakh crores, out of which 2.5 lakh crores to 3 lakh crores only is consumed by weddings. Indian weddings have been known to be a shining market.

Now quite a few states have approved 250 people at weddings, in Delhi and Rajasthan the number is restricted at 200, but authorities have 50% capacity restrictions in parts of NCR. In Mumbai, too, venues are allowed to operate at 50% capacity.
