Delhi Government To Launch Entrepreneurial Curriculum For School Students

Entrepreneurs are an integral part of an economy. Entrepreneurship in India has witnessed a sudden influx owing to the government of India’s several initiatives and policies to boost innovation and entrepreneurship in the country. 

However, to foster the culture of entrepreneurship in the country, it is necessary to start from the grass root level i.e. school level.

The Delhi government is launching the much talked about entrepreneurship curriculum in the state-run schools. The aim of this Entrepreneurship Curriculum is to make students job givers instead of job seekers

 The entrepreneurship curriculum will be purely activity-based and would have no exams, books or evaluation and will be taught from classes 9 to 12.

Making Students Future Ready

Rote learning has remained an integral part of our education system for a long time now. Most of the students tend to study only to get a degree but not adapt those lessons in our daily life. Entrepreneurship not only helps in developing the business mind but also valuable life-skills.

The major idea behind Entrepreneurship Curriculum is to help students strive to become job givers, instead of job seekers, but having said that, the entrepreneurial 'mindset' is important in all walks of life, for a businessman as well as for an officer.

Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister of Delhi, said, “Entrepreneurship does not necessarily mean business, we plan to develop life skills, behavioural skills and to impart proper etiquettes into the minds of children in order to decondition them and make them future ready.”

"We need to teach them to dream by sharing real-life time stories so that their mind can be evolved, and by doing this, we can build a better nation," the minister added.

 Special Workshops to Finalise Curriculum

Before finalising the curriculum, the education board decided to get proper knowledge. The Delhi government organised a consultation workshop with over 80 NGOs, individuals and school students to gather more information on how to prepare its Entrepreneurship Curriculum.

A total of 20 students from classes 9 and 11 also participated in the workshop to provide their perspective on how should the Curriculum be designed.

From Job Seekers to Job Givers

India most laborious and intelligent youth force, not even one of the biggest 50 companies of the world is Indian. India lacks the job provider’ mindset in its students and the roots of the problems need a fix and we believe it lies in school education.

“This can be fixed by changing the pattern of school education and shift the focus from mugging up concepts and knowledge retention to knowledge assimilation and creativity to figure out how to use available knowledge to solve the problems around us.” said, Sisodia.
