"Delhi has more than 2900 charging points and 250 battery swapping stations which is more than any other state/ Union Territory," said Arvind Kejriwal.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said that Delhi has seen the fastest electrification of its transportation systems. Kejriwal made this statement while inaugurating 11 new charging stations in Delhi. According to him, Delhi will get 100 charging stations in next two months. He added that these 100 charging stations will have battery swapping facility too.

"Earlier, battery swapping points and charging stations were different but these have now been clubbed together. These 11 stations have 73 charging points. In the next two months, Delhi will get 100 charging stations," he said.

Kejriwal also stated that Electric Vehicle policy of Delhi aims to increase share of fresh EV sales to 25 per cent by 2024. In the last two years, more than 70 thousand Electric Vehicles have been purchased. 

He further added, “We have given the priority to charging stations and this played an important role in this electrification. Delhi government is giving importance to make charging stations. Delhi has more than 2900 charging points and 250 swapping stations which is more than any other state/ Union Territory.”

According to Charging/Swapping Infrastructure Action Plan for Delhi 2022-25, by Delhi Government, the Delhi EV policy has thirteen clauses pertaining to EV charging infrastructure, out of which ten clauses have been completely operationalised, two clauses have been partially operationalised, and one clause is yet to be operationalised.

Kejriwal presented his thoughts in front of people available in the event by saying, “We are very happy to announce that 11 charging stations are being inaugurated which include 73 charging points and 12 swapping station.  These stations are made under a tender floated in Delhi to make 100 EV charging stations in Delhi.”

“These 100 charging stations will have 900 charging points and 103 swapping stations. Over 70 percent of these charging stations are being made on Delhi Metro’s site. This will give users a benefit of parking and charging at the same time. These stations will be made and maintained by Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.  In this PPP model, for Delhi government, the Government provided 100 KWh electric connection and land to make charging stations. Rest of the costs have to be borne by private entities.” He added.

In another meeting, held on Tuesday, Additional Commissioner of Municiapl Corporaion, A A Tazir said that MCD plans of having one charging facility in every two Kilometre of area. He also mentioned that MCD had partnered with a number of PSUs and Discoms to execute its plan of setting EV charging stations in the state.

Delhi EV Policy has a number of norms listed for those who are going to install charging stations in his/her house. It says “The Government of NCT Delhi (GNCTD) shall provide a grant of 100 per cent for the purchase of charging equipment up to INR Six thousand, per charging point, for the first Thirty thousand charging points. Grants shall be available for chargers that are either single phase or three phase input but comply with all other BEVC– AC001 specifications.
