Dr. Rita Bakshi Gives Insight on Declining Fertility Rate in Urban Population
International Fertility Centre (IFC) treats “on an average about 30 international patients in a month.”

 

According to the World Population Prospects 2017 Revision report, the fertility rate of Indian couples has plummeted by more than 50 percent.

The fertility rate has dropped from 4.97 in 1975-80 to 2.3 in 2015-20.

Causes

Dr. Bakshi points out the causes for increasing number of infertility rate in the world as:

- Sedentary lifestyle and bad habits like smoking, obesity, irregular menstrual cycles and excessive consumption of alcohol toll the reproductive cycles of young men and women.

- Stressful, erratic and long working hours often make it agonizing and intolerable for men and women, taxing their personal and physical lives and wellbeing.

- The blocked fallopian tubes of women is a common reason for increasing infertility rate in India.

- The mounting career-oriented youth of our country focuses on being financially stable and often thinks marriage to be a burden. Also, the awareness among young girls to be independent, unconventional and breaking stereotypes has also risen. This eventually leads to late marriages, which sinks their libido and their level of fertility.

- Dietaries insufficiencies in the body often lead to infertility. There are several foods like whole fats, eggs, fish, almonds, dark chocolates, black beans, bell peppers, legumes, and yogurt. Also, regular workouts, yoga, and a brisk walk could boost your fertility.

Remedy

The urban millennial is spoilt for its choice of lifestyle, which is affecting their body system.

She adds, “Infertility rates can be dropped in India with changing the lifestyles of the people and by when people accustomed themselves to proper routines. Giving up on bad habits, binge eating, and a good workout regime can be very helpful.”
