Elon Musk And Global Auto Leaders Meet US President Joe Biden: Electric Vehicle Industry Meeting
President Joe Biden in December 2021 signed an executive order directing the US government to end purchases of petrol-powered vehicles by 2035.

The Biden administration and senior officials had a meeting recently on 5 April 2022 with major automotive leaders including Elon Musk, CEO, Tesla; Mary Barra, Chief Executive, General Motors to discuss electric vehicles and charging.

Other auto leaders such as Jim Farley, Chief Executive, Ford Motor; Carlos Tavares, CEO, Chrysler-parent Stellantis; Peter Rawlinson, CEO, Lucid; Jeremie Papin, Chair, Nissan Americas were also part of yesterday’s meeting. The meeting discussed United States funding

In a statement released by the Biden administration, it said, "there was broad consensus that charging stations and vehicles need to be interoperable and provide a seamless user experience, no matter what car you drive or where you charge your EV."

The United States Congress last year had approved $7.5 billion in government funding for electric vehicles charging stations, however the legislation has slowed down for the new tax incentives for the building and buying of EVs.

Firing off harsh tweets by Elon Musk directed directly at President Joe Biden is not unseen by Musk followers. Despite being at odds and his repeated complaint that he was ignored by the US government. This February, Biden publicly acknowledged the role of Tesla in the United States electric vehicle manufacturing.

Elon Musk  just recently joined the board of Twitter, Twitter announced on 5 April 2022. This gives the world's richest man a say in the future of the influential social media company. The move comes a day after news that Musk had bought 9.2 percent of the company, making him its largest shareholder.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, National Climate Advisor Gina McCarthy and Infrastructure Coordinator Mitch Landrieu also attended the meeting. Executives from Hyundai Motor America, Subaru of America, Mazda North America, Toyota Motor North America Mercedes-Benz USA and Kia Motors America  also took part.

It was only last week automakers had backed the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) new tougher vehicle emissions regulations in a court challenge brought by some states and ethanol groups.

The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, representing nearly all major automakers, said the EPA rule "will challenge the industry" but it wants to ensure "critical regulatory provisions supporting electric vehicle technology are maintained."
