India to Be the Largest Market for Nutraceutical Products Soon
India's Nutraceuticals industry is anticipated to carry a minimum of 3.5 per cent of the worldwide market share by 2023.

Everyone in these modern days understands the significance of good health. A very famous saying also directs that “prevention is better than cure.”Everyone nowadays wants to improve their immune system and get a healthy lifestyle. This constraint of good immune and healthy lifestyle begot a very important part of health and pharmaceutical industry called Nutraceuticals.

Nutraceuticals, also known as dietary supplements, are natural functional ingredients that are derived from plants or animals. Nutraceutical is the collection of natural products that are effective and sustainable. Nutritional supplements have proven to be an effective way to enhance athletic performance, especially for those who are training hard for an endurance event or a marathon. They have been proven to assist with 70% of all chronic diseases and conditions. The four main categories of nutritional products are:

  1. Dietary supplements

Dietary supplements are supplements that have been shown to provide some benefit to the body when properly taken. Generally, these supplements contain minerals, vitamins, proteins and herbal preparations. There are many different types of dietary supplements and while some may help provide some benefits to the body and others may have active medicinal effects. They're generally not recommended if you're taking anti-clotting medication or if you've had heart problems or are taking steroid pills.

  1. Functional foods

Functional foods are those which provide both nutrition and just a tiny bit of gratification. They keep us going even when we can’t remember all the steps in the grocery store. You have to know what makes your stomach know that it needs more than the current dish from the deli. Creating functional foods is about creating small mini-grains of pleasure in a meal that build your satiety system. Satiating your stomach is like lighting a fuse. It’s ready to be lit when there is food in your mouth, or when you notice an attractive smell. Not all foods are functional but many are used for their aesthetics as well as for thermal effect (TE). Functional foods are items that have a clear physical purpose and a relatively small amount of ingredients. You can put them in your refrigerator to provide energy or to eat as snacks during work projects. They are also easy to prepare since most recipes call for simple ingredients. Cooking with functional foods makes it easier to meet your daily calorie needs – no need to cook a large quantity of food when you only need a small amount for cooking.

  1. Medicinal foods

Medicinal Foods contain substances that have been used for centuries to treat various kinds of ailments. There are two common types of medicinal foods: those which contain ingredients that prevent illness and those which improve health in some way. Some examples include cannabinoids, which are naturally found in the cannabis plant and have been used to treat numerous health conditions. Others will tell you about the healing properties of ginger, vitamin B5, Melatonin, and Garlic. There are many different reasons why people use medicinal foods. For some, it is to help resolve underlying health issues. For others, it is to improve their overall health and well-being. Some people use medicinal foods for psychological reasons (e.g., anxiety). And some use them for reasons that have nothing to do with psychology, but are still beneficial (e.g., weight loss). Medicinal foods are those which have been shown to have some benefit when taken in appropriate amounts. Without a lot of scientific research to back it up, many people think those whole foods such as nuts, seeds and berries are good sources of medicinal foods.

  1. Pharmaceuticals

Pharmaceuticals are compounds that are intended to be taken as pills or as liquid suspensions. Pharmaceutical companies create these compounds using a variety of chemical processes. Some are used to treat health problems, while others are used to aid in producing food and other products. Like any other chemical compound, pharmaceuticals have certain properties when taken in appropriate amounts. When taken in excess, however, they introduce certain chemical properties that can interact with the body in unexpected ways.

Nutraceutical scope in global and Indian markets

The global Nutraceuticals market should reach $285.0 billion by 2021 from $198.7 billion in 2016 at a compound annual rate of growth (CAGR) of 7.5%, from 2016 to 2021. Unlike traditional pharmaceutical companies, which focus on developing drugs to treat specific illnesses. Nutraceuticals specialize in sourcing natural products to supply the market with a wide range of therapeutic ingredients. This means that they are not only able to supply pharmaceutical grade products at competitive prices but also able to provide consumers with the latest nutritional information about these ingredients. Many companies have entered into a definitive agreement to acquire all of the outstanding shares of Nutraceutical Business in India that has developed and operated a retail business related to the distribution of nutritional products. India's Nutraceuticals industry is anticipated to carry a minimum of 3.5 per cent of the worldwide market share by 2023. By the end of 2025, the Nutraceuticals market in India is predicted to grow from an estimated $4 billion to $18 billion.
