Preschool Market in India will Grow at CAGR of around 23% through 2022

80% of the Indian pre-school Franchise Opportunity market is still unorganized, comprising of neighbourhood non-branded pre-schools. Thus, providing a great franchise business opportunity in this sector. However, the preschool business in India is not without its share of challenges. Below are some of the major challenges surfacing the preschool industry.

Operational Challenges

One of the biggest challenges which is faced by preschools in India is the lack of quality teaching staff and training facilities. Owing to the high population in India, most of the preschools have a teacher-student ratio of 1:10. Since the pay scales are not very high it is very difficult to attract quality teachers.

Training is another big challenge as it is an expensive proposition and the unavailability of good trainers and training material adds onto it

Lack of awareness

Apart from the obvious operational challenges, there is also the challenge of dealing with a relatively low level of awareness among parents regarding the importance of early education.

The cost of preschool education in India is around INR 60,000 to 80,000. Since middle-class Indian parents have grown up with the traditional mindset around savings; they don’t consider this as a worthwhile investment in their child’s future. While awareness is gradually increasing, but it continues to be a challenge in tier II and tier III cities with low disposable incomes.

N.R. Satapathy, Director, Sperowz, said, “The challenges in this segment are lack of awareness amongst parents and non-availability of quality teachers. Retention of quality teachers is another challenge that the industry is facing.”

Background Experience

Another challenge in the pre-school franchise business is that the person opting for the preschool franchise opportunity needs to have an educational or related background and experience.

Taking into consideration that it is a lucrative business opportunity, people from totally unrelated domains like IT go in for setting up preschools. The intricacies and challenges of managing and educating the tiny tots with due consideration to child psychology may not be fulfilled in such cases. Hence, this may result in failure of the franchise.
