Research In Healthcare: Why Is It So Important?
During the period from 2019-2024, the Indian digital healthcare market will expand at a CAGR of 27.41 per cent, reaching INR 485.43 Billion in 2024

Healthcare is one of the industries that require updated information to run smoothly. As we know, diseases also evolve as humans do. They get stronger and become harder to conquer. To run the healthcare systems we need some people to constantly keep an eye on these diseases and try finding cures for them. This whole process of understanding and finding cures for the disease is collectively called healthcare research.

Health Care in India: An Overview

The healthcare market in India is driven by the growing incidence of lifestyle diseases. Some other factors which help are; the rising cost of healthcare, technological advancements, and government initiatives like e-health coupled with tax benefits and incentives. Healthcare includes many sectors, such as hospitals, medical devices, clinical trials, outsourcing, telemedicine, medical tourism, and insurance.

In recent times, the industry has grown at a rapid rate due to improving coverage, increased services, and increased expenditure by public and private players alike.

India's healthcare market is expected to rise to $372 billion by 2022 at an annual CAGR of 39 per cent. During the period from 2019-2024, the Indian digital healthcare market will expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 27.41 per cent, reaching INR 485.43 Billion in 2024.

In short, the National Digital Health Blueprint can unlock an incremental economic value of approximately $200 billion in the next ten years.

Why Research Is Important?

Does taking part in clinical research help patients? Patients who receive care in research-active hospitals tend to have better health outcomes. This is due to the research-active hospital being able to offer wider treatment options and more opportunities to be included in clinical trials.  Research-active institutions have advanced learning which benefits the patients. Patients taking part in clinical trials spend more time with the clinical team members. Consequently, problems are likely to be identified sooner. By participating in research, patients can gain a better understanding of their condition and management. A poll carried out by the National Institute of Health Research in 2012 showed that 82% of the public think that it is important for the National Health Service to offer opportunities to take part in healthcare research - only 7% said they would never take part in clinical research.

Also, it helps health professionals as high-quality research by healthcare institutions needs a lot of financial support. Finance is a major issue: typically it costs £1.15 billion to do all the research and development necessary before a new medicine can be licensed for use. Research in clinical settings offers a rewarding career path for many health professionals. In addition to the financial advantage, patients can benefit in real ways when research is conducted.

Research is needed into health due to its optimal design within the constraints of available resources, the prevalence of tropical diseases and viral illnesses and variation between regions (“geographical pathology”). It also plays a significant role while dealing with transmissible diseases and non-communicable diseases.

How It Can Be Performed In India

Researches can be conducted anywhere, regardless of the clinical facilities. You can simply ask a question within clinical practice, work with your colleagues to refine that question, and analyze the components. Next, create a Performa to record your observations, e.g. how many cases of malaria are seen every week? Once a diagnosis is confirmed, how long does it take to start treatment? Which of these factors is significant for clinical outcomes? It will be argued that this is "clinical audit": that is true, but it is from such inquiries that other questions arise and "research progresses".

As an emerging economy, India needs more establishment of a sound research base so that universities can adopt and cultivate the culture of research. This is the true time in the life of our nation to allocate research funding as part of healthcare development.

Conclusion

Healthcare in industry needs research for better future prospect. Through research, health coverage can be improved and methods for assessing it can also be improved. Many times, the availability or accessibility of health care services or interventions can be used to measure coverage.
