Spin Cycles Introduces Antimicrobial Treatment to Ensure Safety and Hygiene
The company claims that the specialized anti-microbial treatment ensures that all garments, shoes, quilts and blankets, carpets are 99.9 percentgerm-free.

Most dry-cleaning and laundry services in India provide only a surface cleaning of clothes as there is no option of specialized treatment. While this was ‘normal’ before the COVID-19 pandemic, it is imperative after the deadly virus outbreak that clothes are also taken care of. ‘antimicrobial clothing’ is slowly emerging as a new trend in textile as well as fashion industry.

While brands are showing increased interest, a Bengaluru- based on-demand laundry services company is using an antimicrobial treatment on regular clothes. Spin Cycles, one of the largest laundries in Bangalore with 40+ stores and a 20,000 square feet processing unit, introduced antimicrobial treatment on all its services during the pandemic and it was hugely appreciated by its customers.

The company claims that the specialized anti-microbial treatment ensures that all garments, shoes, quilts and blankets, carpets are 99.9 percent germ-free and safe to use, especially with kids and elders at home.

“It gives our customers peace of mind where laundry is concerned, especially amid a deadly pandemic. It is festive season now, so more people will look for dry cleaning of saree, curtains, carpets, blankets/quilts around Dussehra and Diwali festivities. Amid the festive cheer, there are concerns regarding a third COVID wave and we do not want people to worry about the safety or hygiene of their laundry. We are not just a normal laundry or dry-clean house. We have a diverse clientele ranging from hotels to corporates in Bangalore, so we ensure that our clients get 100 percent hygienic laundry after a thorough anti-microbial process. After introducing antimicrobial treatment, our company registered a two-fold  increase in new customers and service demands in the second wave of the pandemic,” says Narendra Kumar, Co-Founder, Spin Cycles

Antimicrobial is an agent that slows down the effect of microorganisms or kills them. It is applied to the fabric to help fight off pathogens that could develop on the surface. Antimicrobial treatment not only provides added safety and hygiene but it also works against microorganisms, prolonging the life of the fabric.

Microorganisms grow on the surface of fabrics when they get favorable conditions such as humidity, heat, and nutrition. After reacting with human perspiration, they change into foul-smelling elements like amines, aldehydes, and carboxylic, which causes infections, develops stains, and eventually damages the performance of the fabric.

Ferbin Shamsudeen, who is currently overseeing operations at Spin Cycles, says that the COVID pandemic time was tough but that antimicrobial properties eliminate SARS-CoV-2 upon contact and prevent it from spreading.

More people are now choosing their services for anti-microbial treatment. “Whether it is shoe repair and cleaning or dry-cleaning carpets, we are using an effective anti-microbial process that kills over 99% of microbes. Not only this, all chemicals used for cleaning are custom made to ensure their biodegradability and environment-friendly nature. Today, even the textile industry is providing antimicrobial and antiviral finishes which are considered the most useful due to the protection they provide against diseases and infections, including coronavirus,” she says.

SPIN CYCLES was amongst the first in Bangalore to implement on-demand doorstep pickup and delivery with a fast turnaround time of 24 hours - 96 hours and this is further improving with the help of technology. The company believes in an environment-friendly approach and recycles almost 100% of water it uses for cleaning and washing.

The company also believes in the ‘Make in India’ initiative. To that end, they have fostered a symbiotic relationship with their long-term Indian vendors for machinery or for chemicals, each using their feedback to make the other better. The over seven-year-old company, which has 40+ stores in Bengaluru, is providing all its services through a mobile app, leveraging mobile-based technology for better outreach and customer satisfaction.
