The prime agenda of any Freight and Logistic Management system is to deliver the designated goods at the right place, and at the right time.

Freight and Logistics management are complimentary terms. Logistics deals with everything related to movement and storage of goods, while freight management specializes in planning, tracking, and controlling the transportation of goods.

India and trucks have a unique relationship, where India is amongst the few countries where the power to weight ratio in trucks is the lowest. The Indian truck industry is among the few industries minimally impacted by foreign companies and has constantly resisted the penetration by global majors.

Market

The Indian logistics industry comprising road, rail, air and water is currently standing at $130 billion and is expected to reach $300 billion by 2020. However, it is the road transportation, which dominates the mix as it carries around 65% of freight traffic as compared to rail, water and air, which account for 32%, 7% and 1% respectively.

Paperwork

Trucking industry people require a slew of paperwork, depending upon the goods in the consignments and the routes. Ensuring the right paperwork is important, as record-keeping is one major challenge for the Freight management industry, making sure the driver is carrying right details, completing the work in minimal time.

Tracking trips

Tracking trips are also very important after scheduling trips. Trucking industry people should keep the information like record of trips and consignments updated, providing timely information to the customers.

Fleet management

There are many transportation companies which are delivering consignments using a fleet of trucks and delivery vehicles. Such kind of revenue is based on tonnage hauled and delivered. The industry people not only keep track of the consignments but also upkeep with the vehicles and drivers, as they play a critical role in deciding route. Also, they have to keep a track on the halts of the vehicles on duty, to ensure timely delivery.
